Unpredictable Impact of 'Cultured Meat' Chewed Over by Italian Chamber in Hungary

Nagy said that social, economic, health and ethical objections may arise against meat produced by artificially growing animal tissues.
It is to prevent these risks that the draft legislation that would ban cultured meat in Hungary was drawn up, the minister said. The bill was submitted to Parliament in March.
Nagy said that while cultured meat is not yet authorised in the European Union, the Commission's position is that lab-grown meat is new food, and if it receives approval, it will have to be sold compulsorily in all member states.
In a letter sent to the conference, Francesco Lollobrigida, Italy's minister of agriculture, said his government supported Hungary's position in order to protect agriculture based on originality.
