Updated: FM: Another Shocking Attack Against Oil Pipeline to Hungary
- 21 Aug 2025 11:30 AM
Following talks by phone with Pavel Sorokin, Russia's energy minister, Szijjarto said on Facebook on Monday that work was under way to fix a crucial transformer, but added that it was not clear when it would become operational again.
The minister said "Brussels and Kyiv have been trying to push Hungary into the war in Ukraine for three and a half years, and ... the more and more frequent Ukrainian attacks against our energy security are aimed accordingly."
"Let us make it clear again: it is not our war ... and we want to stay out, and as long as we are on government, we will," Szijjarto said.
Later on Monday, Szijjarto clapped back at Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha's post on X, who called on him to "send your complaints ... to Russia" over the matter.
Sybiha "seems to have missed the facts," Szijjarto said.
Szijjarto said that Russia had been supplying Hungary with oil for decades through the pipeline, in line with Hungary's interests.
Supplies had been repeatedly cut off because of Ukrainian air strikes, which is against Hungary's interests, he said.
"As Hungary’s Foreign Minister my mandate is clear: Hungary’s interest comes first. Period. And let’s not forget: a significant part of Ukraine’s electricity comes from Hungary…" Szijjarto added.
Szijjarto: Delivery restored on Druzhba pipeline
Crude oil delivery towards Hungary was restored on the Druzhba pipeline, which had been damaged in a Ukrainian attack on Sunday night, Peter Szijjarto, the minister of foreign affairs and trade, said on Facebook late on Tuesday.
"I have just thanked Russian deputy energy minister for the speedy repair," Szijjarto said, according to a ministry statement.
"We expect Ukraine to refrain from further attacks against the pipeline, which is key to Hungary's energy supply. This is not our war, leave us out of it!" Szijjarto said.
