PM to Lead Capital’s Renewed FKT, with Budapest Mayor as Deputy
The prime minister will chair the capital city's re-established Development Council (FKT), with the Budapest mayor as its deputy chair, Transport and Investment Minister David Vitezy said on Facebook on Tuesday, stressing the body would make its decisions by consensus.

Vitezy said the government is offering a partnership to the capital. Accordingly, the FKT will restart with significantly expanded powers, similar to its operation between 2016 and 2020.

The body will have five representatives each from the government and the capital, and by making its decisions unanimously, "it will make clear that this is truly a forum for cooperation, not a stage for fruitless bickering," Vitezy said.

The expansion of the FKT's powers means the council will be able to designate major Budapest investment projects as priorities and assign a developer for their implementation. It will be owned equally by the government and the capital.

He said that the Hungarian people had now made clear that they did not want an artificial conflict between the capital and the provinces.

He added that the current proposal had put an end to this conflict and restored the FKT as the most important forum for consultation between the government and the capital.
