Fresh Protest in Budapest Calls National Consultation on Tisza Tax Plans 'Election Fraud'
True prosperity can only exist in a democracy, so when people protest for democracy, they are also protesting for their livelihoods, independent lawmaker Ákos Hadházy said at a protest.

He said in Dunaujvaros, central Hungary, that the protest usually held in Budapest demanding the repeal of the amendment to the law on assembly and against the adoption of the bill on transparency in public life, was organized this time in the city in Fejer County in order to draw attention to the "tragedy of Dunaujváros", the closure of Dunaferr, which once employed thousands of people.

Hadhazy said that there were some who question that true prosperity can only be achieved in a democracy: the Hungarian government, for example, says that China is prosperous and that this requires a dictatorship.

He added that prosperity was not just about GDP, but about a place where it is good to live, and this can only be found in "boring" democracies, where it is possible to ensure that it is not just a small circle of people who live well. "That others are not left by the roadside, and that entire cities are not demolished on the grounds that the money is needed for something else," he added.

He said they want real change, real democracy, and that they are protesting to achieve that "things have consequences."

Hadhazy called the national consultation on the opposition Tisza Party's tax plans election fraud, arguing that it would be carried out from taxpayers' money. Taxpayers have spent hundreds of billions on propaganda campaigns in recent years, and it's all fraud, he said.

At the end of the event the demonstrators marched to the entrance of the Danube Ironworks to "draw attention to the disgrace that this government has done to Dunaújváros."

Hadhazy said he was organising another demonstration in Budapest's Ferenciek Square next week, and was also planning another trip to Hatvanpuszta.
