Scenic Vértes Mountains Trail Crowned Forest Bike Trail of the Year in Hungary
- 16 Oct 2025 6:16 PM
This accolade comes from Hungary’s most popular forest bike trail competition, where the public voted among five finalists for the fifth time since the award's inception.
This winning trail, nestled in the heart of Vértes, captivates riders with its shady forest paths and exhilarating long downhill sections.
Highlights along the route include the military memorial near Szálláskút Hunting Lodge, dramatic cliff faces of historic quarries, the scenic Fáni Valley, and the striking rock formation known as the Devil’s Chair.
In a tight race, the Szántódpuszta–Jabapuszta trail secured second place, favored for its tranquil setting and proximity to Lake Balaton, which had led the vote until the final day.
The third spot was claimed by the Pilismarót–Kétbükkfa-nyereg section, celebrated for offering one of the Danube Bend’s most stunning forest biking experiences.
The initiative aims to promote sustainable forestry, encourage an active lifestyle, and raise awareness about responsible cycling etiquette to protect nature and ensure safety.
To support this, the Association has released a free booklet titled Conscious Cycling in Hungary’s Forests, accessible on their website.
Previous winners include the Farkasgyepű to Bakonybél trail in 2024 and the Széchenyi Ecotourism Park Forest bike trail in Szolnok in 2023.
