Questions Mount About Toxic Exposure at Samsung Plant in Hungary at Göd
In 2023, Hungary’s government secretly ordered the Constitution Protection Office, the National Information Center, and intelligence agencies to investigate the Samsung SDI factory in Göd over reports of toxic exposure among workers, according to sources cited by Telex.

The confidential intelligence report confirmed that the factory repeatedly exposed employees to dangerous chemical levels and failed to remedy the problem or fully share data with labor inspectors, the website wrote.

At a cabinet meeting, Minister of the Prime Minister’s Cabinet Office Antal Rogán and several ministers debated whether to shut down the plant amid public resistance to battery industry projects, the report said.

Some ministers warned that the closure would cause significant national economic damage and discourage future industrial investment. The government ultimately decided not to shut the facility down immediately, instead giving Samsung until the fall to fix the problems.

At that time, Samsung’s Göd plant was seen as a key driver of growth in Hungary’s battery sector, recruiting more workers and producing increasing output. By 2025, the Göd plant was operating at a loss and employing fewer people each month, Telex says.

Samsung Says Plant Complies With All Requirements

Samsung SDI’s battery plant on the outskirts of Budapest complies with all environmental protection and workplace safety regulations, the company told state news wire MTI.

The operation of the plant is transparent, Samsung said.

Samsung dismissed media reports containing “false data and misleading information” and said it would weigh legal steps.

Samsung has always cooperated with authorities and maintains a close cooperation with local communities, the company said, adding that it would continue to strengthen its social role.
