The process will take place gradually, with existing customers set to be migrated at least two months after receiving notification via email. Hungary is one of Revolut’s key markets in Central and Eastern Europe by retail customer base, having reached the milestone of 2 million customers in July 2025.
Revolut has already opened nine other local branches in France, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Romania, Spain, Germany, Portugal and Belgium. This strong track record and experience ensures the company’s readiness to expand its strategy to open local branches in key European markets.
The Hungarian branch will start providing Hungarian bank accounts for existing customers once they are migrated to the Hungarian branch, while a selected group of new customers will receive them when onboarding onto the branch begins in the near future.
Gradually, this will extend to all new customers. Providing Hungarian bank accounts will help Revolut meet the increasing financial needs of Hungarian customers, continue the diversification of its banking products portfolio and cater in a more personalized way to the needs of local users.
In October 2025, the bank completed the regulatory steps for the establishment of its Hungarian branch, being registered with the Central Bank of Hungary (MNB) as “Revolut Bank UAB Magyarországi Fióktelepe” in the public register of financial institutions. The branch will start to operate effectively after the onboarding of its first new customers.
After the migration of existing eligible customers, existing and new retail accounts will be managed locally by the Hungarian branch of Revolut Bank UAB.
Customer deposits will continue to be covered up to €100,000 by the Lithuanian Deposit Guarantee Fund. Revolut Bank operates in 30 markets within the European Economic Area and is licensed and regulated by the European Central Bank and the Bank of Lithuania.
Gábor Petrás, country manager of Revolut Bank UAB Magyarországi Fióktelepe, commented, “The operationalization of the Revolut Bank UAB branch in Hungary and being able to offer Revolut Hungarian bank accounts is yet another step towards our ambition of becoming the primary bank of choice for our retail customers on the market. We put great emphasis on being locally relevant in every market in which we operate.”
“Our goal is to help our clients make the most of their finances, and to help them take more and better control of their money. Whether it’s their budgeting goals or spending preferences, or whether they want to save it or invest, Revolut offers a whole ecosystem in its superapp, to centralize and optimize financial decisions, making the most of their money.”
Joe Heneghan, CEO of Revolut Bank, added: “We’ve evolved a lot over the last few years, quickly maturing our offering and moving from being the trusted travel card of our users to a complete ecosystem of financial innovations with a powerful banking products portfolio at the core of our offering. Our growth pace is currently strong in Hungary and our ambition is to continue on this path to become one of the leading primary accounts providers in the country.”
Hungarian Accounts Support Primary Banking Ambitions
A local bank account is often essential when choosing a bank as a primary account. The addition of Hungarian bank accounts will make it easier for users to direct debit their paycheck and bills to their Revolut account.
This, coupled with the complete ecosystem of products offered by the fintech company, including daily banking, savings, investment, budgeting, travel, experiences and lifestyle services, positions Revolut as a solid alternative as a primary bank for Hungarians, the company says.
A survey conducted by Revolut and research company Dynata in November 2025 reveals that for over a third of Hungarians (35%), one of their main wishes for the new year is to take smarter, more intentional financial decisions.
One in five Hungarians (21%) said that one of the most powerful tools for improving their financial situation in 2026 would be an easy-to-use app to track, save and invest their money.
A local bank account and a localized offering can support these priorities, helping them have more control over their finances, from budgeting their salary to managing their savings, all in one app that has their primary bank account.
As in all products and services provided by Revolut, the migration will be smooth and frictionless, while the customer experience will remain unchanged.
All services related to the payment accounts used by customers — including personal accounts, paid plans, joint accounts, Revolut Pro, Revolut Kids and Teens, local and cross-border direct debits and money transfers, currency exchange, card payments, RevPoints and savings — will be provided via the Hungarian branch.
All other existing services will continue to be provided from other entities from the group in the way they have been provided up to this point.
All existing customers will need to update their personal information after the migration process to continue to enjoy the same banking experience. They will be informed directly in-app and via email about the steps to be performed.
Additionally, new terms and conditions for products provided by the Hungarian branch will apply once customers are migrated. These are based on the current ones, with a few specific changes to make them compliant with Hungarian laws. Customers can find a summary of the key changes in their email from Revolut and can read them in full on Revolut’s website.
Pricing Updates and Customer Transition Measures
As a fully licensed European bank, Revolut operates under the supervision of the European Central Bank and the Bank of Lithuania, while being subject to limited supervision by the Central Bank of Hungary in Hungary.
Revolut works closely with regulators and fully complies with all applicable local laws and regulations across all markets in which it operates, including the payment of applicable local taxes.
To meet long-term growth objectives and continue providing best-in-class services to its customers, Revolut is updating its pricing for certain bank transfers to non-Revolut accounts. While introducing new transaction fees, the company said it remains committed to offering competitive rates in the Hungarian market.
Peer-to-peer transfers between Revolut users will remain free of charge, regardless of the amount.
Transfers to non-Revolut accounts under HUF 50,000 will remain entirely free.
For new users onboarded directly to the Hungarian branch, Revolut will cover the cost of the new transaction fees until the migration of the existing customer portfolio concludes.
For existing Revolut customers, the new transaction fees will only apply once the customer is migrated to the Hungarian branch.
These measures are designed to ensure the core Revolut experience remains accessible and sustainable, with many transfers remaining free of charge for users of the free Standard plan. Standard plan customers will continue to pay no monthly account fee and no card fees.
Customers on paid plans will benefit from additional free allowances and full waivers.
Premium and Metal customers will receive a transaction fee-free allowance for transfers totaling up to HUF 1 million each month.
Ultra customers will be able to transfer an unlimited amount free of charge.
In addition, Revolut is removing weekend foreign exchange fees in Hungary for Premium, Metal and Ultra customers and reducing foreign exchange fees from 1% to 0.5% for customers on the Plus plan.
Customers will receive clear and timely communications ahead of these changes. The company said there will be no hidden fees and that customers will be able to see when a transaction fee applies and the exact amount they will be charged.
