Many Petrol Stations in Hungary are Close to Collapse
Independent petrol stations are facing a critical liquidity crisis, with many operators reportedly nearing bankruptcy as disruptions in fuel supply intensify, Portfolio reports.

The Association of Independent Petrol Stations has called for urgent consultations with the government, warning that the situation could threaten fuel availability in rural areas.

According to the association, smaller filling stations have been squeezed by the combined impact of unprofitable fuel imports, the gradual depletion of strategic reserves and the absence of state support measures.

MOL, which normally supplies around 70% of Hungary’s fuel demand, is currently not operating at full capacity.

The shortfall would typically be covered by imports, but previous price controls have made fuel imports economically unviable for traders.

The government has attempted to ease shortages by releasing strategic reserves onto the market.

However, industry participants say these stocks are gradually being exhausted, raising concerns over the long-term stability of domestic supply.
