Line-Up Finalised for Hungary’s New Government
The Tisza Party is setting up a new, independent environmental authority, Laszlo Gajdos, the incoming minister for the living environment said on Thursday.

Laszlo Gajdos said on Facebook that intensive work has been under way to set up the new ministry for the living environment, with the first priority being the creation of an independent environmental authority.

This body will not follow political directives but will operate strictly on professional grounds, conducting continuous and consistent inspections of major industrial polluters.

He added that the new authority will ensure full compliance with regulations and the safe operation of investments, while giving due weight to the views of civil organisations and citizens.

"Our goal is clear: we are building an impregnable protection system for our environment and our future. The health and safety of the Hungarian people will be at the heart of the Tisza government's work," Gajdos said.

Peter Magyar, leader of the election-winning Tisza Party and prime minister-elect, on Saturday announced on Facebook that he has asked Mark Radnai, deputy head of the party, to serve as government commissioner for a humane and functioning Hungary, and Andrea Rost, Kossuth Prize winner opera singer, to serve as government commissioner for music culture.

Magyar said his government will establish the Institute for a Functional and Humane Hungary in order to strengthen professional and social dialogue supporting the renewal of public life. The institute will operate for five years; its task will be to prepare analyses, develop proposals and methodology.

As government commissioner, Mark Radnai will assist in the establishment of the Institute and the exchange of ideas with the government as well as the channelling of the completed materials and proposals into government decision-making, Magyar said in the post.

On the establishment of the Institute for a Functional and Humane Hungary, Magyar said it was necessary because understanding and addressing the problems accumulated in public life required broader knowledge, systematic experience and structured social involvement. Thus, the aim of the institute will be to provide a professional and social basis for decision-making.

"Strengthening social participation is a basic condition for functioning and humane governance," Magyar said. "Therefore, the task of the Institute will be to develop specific, functional and institutionalised forms through which social participation can become a regular and predictable part of decision-making within the framework of representative democracy".

On the other government commissioner, Magyar said Rost had been one of the key ambassadors of Hungarian culture in the world for decades.

On the world's leading opera stages, from the La Scala in Milan to the Metropolitan Opera in New York, she has represented everything that Hungarian music means: talent, discipline, sensitivity and world-class knowledge.

Her artistic career and international experience are a guarantee that real performance and quality will once again be the standard in Hungarian music culture, the prime minister-elect said in the post.

In the coming period, a priority task will be to support young talent, strengthen music education, and help Hungarian performers gain adequate opportunities both at home and internationally.

As government commissioner, Rost will work to ensure that the past, present and future of Hungarian music receive the attention, support and future it deserves, Magyar said.
