Quoting results from the European Social Survey, Republikon said that while in 2017 some 37 percent of Hungarians asked said they supported the "live and let others live" principle, and 41 percent were anti-gay, in 2025, 49 percent were more supportive and only 25 percent "argued with the idea that the gay community should be allowed to live as they like."

The acceptance of adoption by same-sex couples is at lower levels but also improving in Hungary, at 29 percent up form 19 percent in 2016, the survey said.

According to the Rainbow Map, however, the situation of the gay community has "drastically" worsened in Hungary in the past 10 years, with Hungary's score dropping by 10 points, Republikon said.

Currently Hungary is in 38th place out of 49 surveyed countries, while it was in the 15th place ten years ago, the institute added.

Quoting the Equaldex equality index, Republikon said that Hungary was 35th out of 50 countries, adding that there was "a huge gap" between the social acceptance of the community and its legal possibilities, because while the country was placed 28th by public opinion, it was only 41st from a legal aspect.

In conclusion, Republikon said that the previous government had been "much more adversarial" with the LGBTQ community than Hungarian society, which "did not follow the government's drastic anti-gay moves".
