How Hot was June in Hungary? - 2nd Hottest Ever!
June 2026 was the second hottest June on record in Hungary, marked by an extreme heatwave, the national weather service company HungaroMet said on Friday.

The average temperature for the month was 22.5C nationwide, exceeding the 1991-2020 average of 19.8 degrees by 2.7C. This made it the second warmest June in the country's history, second only to June 2019, with an average of 22.67C.

In some areas of the Great Plain, the monthly average temperature reached 23.5C, while values below 20C were recorded only in northern valleys and higher mountains.

A Europe-wide record-breaking heatwave also affected Hungary, with the absolute national temperature record broken at 42.0C in Szecseny, in northern Hungary, on June 29.

On that day, the national average daily temperature was 30.2C, the highest since the early 20th century. On June 29 and 30, the national average maximum daily temperature was around 38.7C, a level exceeded only once before, on July 20, 2007.

The month was also dry, with an average of 39.8mm of rainfall, 45 percent below the 1991-2020 average of 71.9mm.
