The project, valued at more than HUF 3 billion, marks the first phase of a broader, multi-year effort to restore and modernise one of the city’s most visited landmarks.

According to Ildikó Szűts Boros, CEO of Budapest’s spa operator, the initial stage will focus on refurbishing the women’s thermal section as part of a wider overhaul of the bath complex’s thermal facilities. This phase is scheduled to last approximately 12 months.

She emphasized that the current investment represents only the beginning of a much larger reconstruction plan.

Substantial additional upgrades will be required in the coming years to fully restore the historic baths to their former condition.

Széchenyi Baths remain one of Budapest’s top attractions, drawing around 1.3 million visitors annually.
