Drinking Water in Budapest Stable - No Restrictions Planned, Says Mayor

Budapest's drinking water supply is stable, and there is currently no need to introduce restrictions, Gergely Karacsony, the city's mayor, said on Facebook on Saturday.
"However, to keep it that way, everyone can contribute by saving water in the coming days. I urge everyone: let's demonstrate once again that Budapest is a city of solidarity," he said.
The mayor added that while water restrictions are unnecessary, the city is implementing numerous energy-saving measures, from public transport and switching off decorative lighting to mandating remote work and turning off saunas in thermal baths.
Budapest is in a stronger position than many other parts of the country because of the capital’s large-scale water infrastructure and access to reliable drinking water sources.
However, officials continue to urge residents to avoid unnecessary water consumption during the heatwave, as demand can rise sharply during periods of extreme temperatures.
The city has also expanded measures to help residents cope with the heat, including maintaining access to public drinking fountains and temporary water distribution points in busy areas.
