The Sisters of Mercy, Dürer Kert Budapest, 28 October
Three years after their sold-out concert in Budapest, one of the most significant bands of the past forty years is returning to Budapest: on October 28, The Sisters of Mercy will captivate audiences at Dürer Kert.

Formed in 1980, The Sisters of Mercy have defined their entire career by going against numerous rock and roll subgenres and rejecting categorization. Built around the iconic presence of Andrew Eldritch, the band has become emblematic within its genre.

Eldritch’s deep voice and distinctive character, combined with the group’s cold, monotonous melodies, create an unmistakable and unrepeatable sound.

The band has released a total of three albums. Following their debut First and Last and Always, their 1987 release Floodland brought a major breakthrough, featuring epic tracks such as Dominion, Lucretia My Reflection, and of course the more than 10-minute opus This Corrosion — all of which are still regularly performed at their concerts today.

Their 1990 album Vision Thing introduced a heavier, more metal-influenced sound while retaining the band’s trademark drum machine thunder — courtesy of Doktor Avalanche — and their signature cryptic lyrics. Although no new full-length album has been released since, their popularity and influence have only continued to grow over time.

Their refined yet elemental cacophony has inspired countless bands throughout their career.

While the group did not perform live after 2009, they returned in November 2022 so fans around the world could once again experience their music. Even without a new album, they have introduced several new songs at their shows that have been warmly received by audiences, including at their sold-out Dürer Kert concert in 2023.

Recent concert reviews describe the current show as their strongest in years. Eldritch is supported by the outstanding performances of Ben Christo, Kai, “Ravey” Dave Creffield, and — as always — Doktor Avalanche. The experience is enhanced by a cinematic light show and a setlist that includes both classic hits and acclaimed new tracks.

Anyone who wants to see the band — whose popularity has remained unbroken for over 40 years — live once again should head to Dürer Kert on October 28 for another unforgettable The Sisters of Mercy experience.
