Xpat Interview: Mr. Peter David, CEO Of AmCham
Chief Executive Officer of the American Chamber of Commerce in Hungary (AmCham) for four years. In the past he has held several senior management positions in the corporate affairs division of Phillip Morris International, both in Hungary and at its Swiss international headquarters.



Initially qualified as a foreign affairs journalist, he learned and mastered the trade at Magyar Tavirati Iroda (Hungarian News Wire Services) and was practicing it over a decade and a half, working eventually on daily and weekly news editorials and on TV. He is a distinguished communicator with a great deal of practical experience and a respectable educator in his field.

Besides his native Hungarian he speaks English, French and Russian. He is married and the father of two adult daughters.

1. Where did you grow up?
In Budapest

2. What Hungarian traditions bring back fond memories of your childhood?
My mother singing me beautiful Hungarian folk songs; visiting the Royal Castle district with my parents; visiting art galleries, especially before the BAV auctions; Lake Balaton: spending a few weeks every summer in Balatonboglar in the resort house of my dad's company; a wonderful candy bar called Melodia (superb taste and beautiful golden foil wrapping, very unusual at the time);

3. What would you miss most if you moved away from Hungary?
My friends; the city of Budapest; people speaking Hungarian; gorgeous Hungarian women.

4. Friends are in Budapest for a weekend - what must they absolutely see and do?
MÜPA; Parliament; taking a boat trip on Danube; Café New York, having lunch at Náncsi néni or Kiskakukk

5. What is your favourite Hungarian food?
Lecsó

6. What is never missing from your kitchen?
Coffee

7. What is your favourite place in Hungary?
Újlipótváros, part of the 13th district

8. What career other than yours would you love to pursue?
Writer; teacher; filmmaker; musician; political advisor

9. What’s a job you would definitely never want?
Tax inspector

10. Where did you spend your last vacation?
Szántód

11. Where do you hope to spend your next one?
Tuscany

12. What was your favourite band, film, or hobby as a teen?
Illés zenekar, A tenkes kapitánya; gymnastics;

13. What can’t you resist?
Playing scrabble

14. Red wine or white?
None of those

15. Which achievement in your life are you most pleased about?
I created a prize for high standard journalism 15 years ago and it still exists and is highly regarded

16. Book or movie?
Book: everything written by Murakami Haruki

17. Morning person or night person?
Late night (an owl, actually)

18. Which social issue do you feel most strongly about?
Poverty and gipsy issues

19. Buda side or Pest side?
Pest

20. What would you say is your personal motto?
Do more of what you love.
