1. What’s been happening at work and at home since your first Xpat Interview? 

Thanks for asking, plenty has been going on. 

After opening last October, Davy Byrne's has been doing really well right through till March, with new customers, regular returning customers, and new friends all stopping by and enjoying a pint or something a bit harder on a daily basis. 

From the successful opening party, we had holiday events, fundraisers, plenty of musical talent playing, English-language comedy, and much more.

Tim: Since the quarantine has forced us to shut down, we have been keeping busy at home trying to reorganize our flats and keep up with my 5 year old. 

Brian and Tim: We have both been brainstorming ideas for new events and fun activities to be scheduled once everyone is allowed back out to Davy Byrne's!

2. On a scale of 1 to 10 how happy are you with life in Hungary, and why?

We both agree we are at a 10!  Even with all the corona craziness going on right now, we really love living here in Hungary, and can't wait to get the doors back open to Davy Byrne's Irish Pub.

3. What’s the best party you’ve ever attended, and why?

Any party we have had at Davy Byrne's of course!  Good friends, refreshing beverages, good music (live or our amazing playlist, thanks Brian Tuohy!) and great craic, what more could you ask for?

4. What’s your favourite drink?

We both love a really good, properly poured, pint of Guinness.

5. What hidden talents do you have?

Not sure about anything hidden, we like to display our bartending talents though!

6. What was the most interesting travel trip you have ever taken?

We would both have to agree that our first travel trip to Hungary was pretty interesting; so interesting in fact that we decided to stay!

7. If you were given a wish that could come true, what would you ask for?

Let us open our pub again, please!

8. What’s the last book you read, and movie you watched?

Tim: With working from home - we are both also full-time teachers - and in my case taking care of a 5 year old, not too much time for books and movies!

9. If someone wrote a biography about you, what would the title be?

10 steps of Do's and Don't when opening a new business as an expat in Hungary!

10. What is the perfect pizza toppings combination for you?

We both like anything with lots of meat.

11. If you could trade places with any other person for a week, real or fictional, with whom would it be?

We would both like to trade places with any owner of a pub who is currently open, we are just roaring to get back in there and see everyone again!

12. On a scale of 1 to 10 how unusual are you, and why?

10/10 totally unusual, we opened an Irish Pub in Budapest after all :)

13. What’s the best website you’ve ever visited, and why?

14. Who do you admire the most, and why?

We both agree that medical workers and those providing services to others combating the Covid-19 viruses are important, heroic and we definitely tip our hats to them!

15. What do you like best and least about living in Hungary?

Best is the amazing food and people, least is probably middle of February when it is cold, grey, with Christmas a good while away!

16. What has made the biggest impact on your life so far, and why?

For sure opening our first pub/business with our partner Balázs.

17. If you won USD 30 million, what would you do with the money?

That is a very specific number!  We would definitely make some investments in our business, probably look at other future business opportunities.  Maybe go on a short vacation when that is possible again.

18. If your life had a theme song, what would it be?

Don't Stop Believing!

19. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you choose?

Budapest, Hungary!

20. In ten years from now what will you be doing?

We hope to say running a successful and vibrant pub, Davy Byrne's Irish Pub, and continuing to serve our community with pride and a smile.  As well as a number of other businesses which reach different markets and customer bases that we are interested in.
