Growing up, I had the privilege of living in several countries — including Thailand, the United States, and South Africa — which gave me a unique appreciation for cultural diversity and adaptability from an early age.
After finishing high school, I began medical studies in Grenoble, France. However, due to the highly competitive nature of the PACES system, I explored new opportunities abroad to stay on track toward becoming a doctor. That path led me to Semmelweis University, where I’ve found both academic growth and a supportive international community.
Today, I’m especially interested in orthopedic and trauma surgery, with the long-term goal of combining my medical career with my passion for high-performance sports and athlete care.
Most recently, I was proud to be part of the squad that won the 2024/25 Hungarian Championship. I joined the Budapest Exiles in 2021, and for a few seasons, we came close but never quite made it to the top. There were plenty of challenges along the way, tough losses, injuries, and learning curves… but we kept pushing. That’s why winning the Hungarian Championship in the 2024/25 season felt so special. It wasn’t just about the title it was about finally seeing all the hard work, setbacks, and team spirit pay off.
1. When did you arrive in Hungary and what brought you here?
I’ve been in Hungary since January 2019, originally pursuing studies in medicine in France. Unfortunately, I didn’t make it through the competitive selection process, and found an opportunity to enroll at Semmelweis University.
2. Have you ever been an expatriate elsewhere?
During my childhood, my parents moved abroad multiple times as expats. I had the chance to live in countries like Thailand, the United States, and South Africa. Each place gave me a new perspective and shaped how I adapt to different cultures today.
3. What surprised you most about Hungary?
The extreme temperatures you can experience during summers and winters, and the overall safety you feel.
4. Friends are in Budapest for the weekend – what must they absolutely see and do?
The classic is to show them Fisherman’s Bastion and the Hungarian Parliament. What never fails (unsurprisingly) is bringing them to the ruin bars the city has to offer.
5. What is your favourite Hungarian food?
Goulash on a very cold winter day.
6. What is never missing from your refrigerator?
Milk.
7. What is your favourite Hungarian word?
Any word that the opposing team says during our games in rugby. Unfortunately, I don’t think it’s appropriate to write them here.
8. What do you miss most from home?
Other than the obvious answer being family, this place is criminally missing seafood (but since Hungary is a landlocked country, I can’t blame them too much).
9. What career other than yours would you love to pursue?
I would love to go into orthopedic or trauma surgery, but I’m still exploring my options in the medical field.
10. What's a job you would definitely never want?
Every job has its ups and downs, but I think the one I’d struggle with most is anything that lacks purpose or human connection. I need to feel like what I’m doing matters.
11. Where did you spend your last vacation?
I went to Spain with university friends for a week last February. Sevilla was incredible, definitely worth a visit.
12. Where do you hope to spend your next holiday?
I really miss being in Indonesia with my family, so hopefully I'll get to go there soon.
13. Apart from temptation, what can't you resist?
Telling random trivia that nobody asked for.
14. What was your favourite band, film, or hobby as a teen?
Film – The Dark Knight
Hobby – Judo/Rugby
15. Red or white?
Red, with a nice steak.
16. Books or films?
Films. While I do enjoy reading books, I’ve always been a huge cinephile. Among my top films are The Dark Knight, Blood Diamond, 12 Angry Men, and Prisoners.
17. Morning person or night person?
I used to be a morning person, but lately I’ve shifted into more of a night owl.
18. Buda or Pest?
Definitely Pest. That’s where all the energy is.
19. What would you say is your personal motto?
“I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul.”
