His next chapter brings him back to Europe, where he now takes the helm at Dorothea Hotel, Budapest with the ambition of positioning it at the very pinnacle of the city’s hospitality scene

1. When did you arrive in Hungary and what brought you here?

I arrived at the beginning of 2025 to take over the helm of Dorothea Hotel as the new General Manager.

2. Have you ever been an expatriate elsewhere?

Yes, my first experience was way back in 1986 when I moved to Austria, I then ventured through Germany, Hong Kong, China, Thailand and Brunei with spells between in the UK. I last left the UK in 2014, and had the chance to live in the Czech Republic and Egypt too.

3. What surprised you most about Hungary?

The quality of the wine, the greenery and the beautiful countryside that is right on your doorstep.

4. Friends are in Budapest for the weekend - what must they absolutely see and do?

Budapest is a city that has so much to offer, Museums, historical buildings, amazing landscapes, spas and much more. Of course you can’t miss Dorothea Hotel, but jokes aside, the Parliament, the Buda Castle, the St. Stephen Basilica and the Opera House are must see in my point of view. Other than them, I think the best is to explore the city by foot, there is something to see at nearly every corner. Also, trying Lángos, Kürtőskalács and Pálinka is a must have.

5. What is your favourite Hungarian food?

There is a restaurant close to where I live that has the most fabulous roast duck.

6. What is never missing from your refrigerator?

Cheese

8. What do you miss most from home?

Family

9. What career other than yours would you love to pursue?

A travel writer.

My Boss’s

11. Where did you spend your last vacation?

Thailand

12. Where do you hope to spend your next holiday?

Cruising down the Mekong River.

13. Apart from temptation what can't you resist?

Chocolate

14. What was your favourite band, film, or hobby as a teen?

Band would be Queen and film would be the Godfather.

Both my favorite football team plays in red & white Stripes.

Improving Education for everyone not just the few.
