The number inoculated against Covid-19 in Hungary is expected to exceed 5 million this weekend, and at that point the night curfew and mandatory mask wearing in public spaces rules will be lifted, along with other changes announced by PM Orbán this morning.

There are quite a few bank holidays in Hungary this coming year. Depending on which day of the week a bank holidays falls on, the previous or the following day is deemed to be a ‘rest day’ to make a long weekend for employees to enjoy.

As you can see from the easy to read lists below, instead of having one free day in the middle of the work week, Hungarians usually prefer to have long weekends in exchange for a Saturday that would otherwise be a ‘rest day’.

“Over the past 1100 years, Hungarians have experienced much more serious crises than the current one, but emerged victorious from every one of them”, Minister of Human Capacities Miklós Kásler emphasised at a ceremony in Budapest on Tuesday to present state awards to mark the 20 August national holiday, and awards postponed from the 15 March memorial day of the 1848 revolution.
