The Defence Ministry has signed an agreement with Sweden on upgrading Hungary’s Gripen fighter jets. Under the agreement the ministry will be able to obtain equipment necessary for the technical servicing and maintenance of Gripen fighter jets outside of Hungary, thereby enabling Hungary to deploy the aircraft abroad as well.

The proportion of Hungarians speaking a foreign language has gone up by 12 percentage points in five years, daily Magyar Nemzet said on Tuesday, citing data by the Central Statistical Office. In 2006, only 25% of Hungarians spoke at least one foreign language whereas their proportion in 2011 was 37%, the paper said.
