Centre for Budapest Transport (BKK) awarded German-based global solutions provider Scheidt & Bachmann a €91 mln five-year contract to design, supply and manage an automated multi-modal fare collection system, railwaygazette.com reported. Some €54.5 mln will be provided for the project by the European Bank for Reconstruction & Development and HUF 5.3 bln by the municipality of Budapest.

Hungary’s opposition E-PM alliance urged the government to scrap plans of levying a tax on internet data transfers in a statement released today. According to estimates, the government’s plans mean that every downloaded gigabyte would cost Hungarian internet service providers HUF 150, and many believe ISPs would simply pass the tax on to users.
