Hungary’s health authority (ANTSZ) has issued the highest-degree heat alert for midnight on Friday to 4pm on Monday, the authority told MTI. In the next few days daily maximum temperatures will surge to around 38-39 C, the National Weather Service said. Daily average temperatures will reach 28 and 30 C.

The would-be travellers have valid tickets, and most also have letters of invitation, although Canada does not impose a visa requirement on Hungarians, Dancs pointed out.
