Hungary is set to become the first EU country to be monitored by the Council of Europe, following recent changes to the country’s constitution. The monitoring committee of the Council of Europe’s Parliamentary Assembly announced last week (25 April) that it was recommending a formal procedure to monitor Hungary’s respecting of its obligations to the Council of Europe.

The Capital Court of Appeals on Thursday upheld a lower court ruling awarding the Budapest community frequency 92.9MHz to independent station Klubrádió, in a final ruling. Klubrádió won the frequency in April 2010, but the ORTT, the broadcast media regulator of the time, lost its quorum after the elections and no contract was concluded.

Most companies are unwilling to enter into a legal dispute with NAV, the tax authority, consultants Deloitte Magyarország found in a recent survey of medium and large companies. Two-thirds of respondents said they have faced a situation when they considered a NAV ruling unfair, but took no action, as the money concerned was relatively small.
