The American Charles Bernstein and the Italian Giuseppe Conte were presented the Janus Pannonius Grand Prize for Poetry at a ceremony in Pécs, southwest Hungary. Bernstein’s poetry was praised for being “unexpected, radical, provocative, complex, dexterous, and contemporary” in a laudation at the ceremony.

The annual swim across Lake Balaton between Révfülöp and Balatonboglár will be staged on Saturday, for the 33rd time. Organisers said that they expect thousands again to cover the 5.2km distance. Good weather is forecast, but organisers will make a final decision at noon on Thursday.
