Hungary's Chief Medical Officer has extended the current second-degree heat alert until midnight on Friday, June 26. Due to soaring temperatures, the warning will be upgraded to a third-degree (highest level) alert starting Saturday, June 27, and will remain in place until midnight on Wednesday, 1 July.

The chief health officer has issued a third degree heat alert - the highest level - for the whole of Hungary from today to midnight on Sunday, the Public Health Centre and the disaster management authority announced.
