Celebrated Hungarian composer and conductor Péter Eötvös has died, his family told MTI. Eötvös, an eminent personality of the Hungarian and international contemporary music scene, died on Sunday after a long illness, at the age of 80.

The Museum of Fine Arts this year is presenting exhibitions on the Hungarian-American photographic legacy, the heritage of Mesopotamia, and a retrospective marking the 180th birth anniversary of painter Mihály Munkácsy, the museum’s director said.

Following Salzburg, Berlin, Amsterdam, Madrid, and Paris, Claus Guth's critically acclaimed 2008 adaptation of Don Giovanni is being presented at the National Opera House in Hungary. The title role of this provocative, youthful production is performed by Gábor Bretz and Károly Szemerédy, the ensembles of the Hungarian State Opera are conducted by principal conductor Martin Rajna.
