HungaroMet, the national weather service, has withdrawn its 2nd degree (orange) alerts issued on Tuesday for freezing rain in Budapest and other parts of the country. The weather service, has however, maintained a first-degree alert for some areas in south-eastern Hungary, where further, scattered sleet is expected.

The number of road accidents and injuries caused by people falling on the streets because of black ice has soared in the wintry conditions, the National Ambulance Service wrote on its Facebook page. The service received at least 1,000 calls for help in Budapest alone, it added.
