A commemoration was held to mark the 135th birth anniversary of Hungarian composer Béla Bartók (1881-1945) in the Budapest Farkasrét Cemetery on Friday. “We must continue to duly preserve and further promote Bartók’s legacy,” the human resources minister told MTI after the event.

A decision has been made after five years on the remains of Jewish victims of the Arrow Cross that were discovered in 2011. The bones found by divers during the 2011 renovation of the Margit bridge will be laid to rest in the Jewish cemetery on Kozma utca in the Tenth District.

In 2015 the Annual Service of Remembrance will be held on Sunday 8 November. The traditional service and wreath-laying ceremony will take place at the Commonwealth War Cemetery of Solymár at 10:55. Everybody is welcome to attend the ecumenical service. Those who do are kindly requested to arrive at the cemetery no later than 10:45. The service lasts approximately 20 minutes.

There will be no state funeral for the former president Árpád Göncz, who, in an break with tradition, specified in his will that a simple memorial service be held. The former head of state will be laid to rest on November 6 in Óbuda cemetery alongside István Bibó, Miklós Vásárhelyi and György Litván, with whom he shared prison cells at various times in the years after 1956.
