Hungary has the best diplomatic and economic relations with Serbia out of all its neighbouring countries. Serbia is also Hungary’s top economic partner in the western Balkans, Péter Szijjártó, the foreign affairs and trade minister, said after a meeting of the Hungarian-Serbian mixed economic committee in Subotica (Szabadka).

Socialist group leader Bertalan Tóth told reporters that his party would not initiate parliamentary debate sessions, turn to the president or the Constitutional Court and would even boycott five-party talks between now and the election.

Retail sales in Hungary increased by an annual 4.6 percent in August, up from 4.2 percent in July, preliminary data released by the Central Statistical Office (KSH) on Wednesday show. Adjusted for calendar year effects, retail sales also rose by an annual 4.6 percent.

Budapest’s municipal assembly on Wednesday voted to donate a bust of Hungarian-born composer and pianist Franz Liszt to Buenos Aires. City councillors voted unanimously to task the Budapest History Museum with casting the bust and shipping it to the Argentine capital.
