On a cold, wet Sunday afternoon, what better way to enjoy yourself than with some wonderful food and drink? And the crowds did come out to enjoy the annual Mangalica Festival. If you fancy a taste of a pig that came close to extinction just a few decades ago, the magnificent mangalica meat is said to be even tastier and healthier than regular pork.

Since its foundation in 2000, the Hungarian Immigration Office has never seen so many asylum applications as it did in 2013. There were nine times as many asylum seekers in 2013 as in the year before, said Zuzsanna Végh, General Director of the Immigration and Nationality Office.

The Danube-Ipoly National Park Directorate's new visitors' centre and a new educational nature trail have been inaugurated in Királyrét, 60 kilometres north of Budapest. The ecotourism institution, which has been developed into a visitors' centre out of a forest school, was inaugurated by Deputy State Secretary András Rácz and Government Commissioner Richárd Tarnai.

Multi-award winning Hungarian film director and screenwriter Miklós Jancsó, considered one of the film greats of the 1960s and 1970s, has died at the age of 92. Jancsó won best director award at the 1972 Cannes film festival for Red Psalm, and, in 1979, Cannes bestowed on him a lifetime achievement award.
