It was a “serious” mistake both from the economic and professional points of view to centralise specialised hospitals around the country, the cabinet chief said in the town of Makó, in south Hungary. János Lázár, speaking at a news conference after talking to health-care professionals at a local hospital, said there was a need for small and medium-sized countryside hospitals.

Hungary is starting hospital developments with about 60 billion forints (EUR 200m) in European Union support, Minister of State for Healthcare Miklós Szócska said on Sunday. Almost 50 billion forints will go to at least 60 institutions to help them take on new responsibilities after a re-allocation of tasks last year, he stated.
