Both the national and the Budapest heat records were broken on Tuesday afternoon, the National Weather Service reported. The new national record for September 1 of 36.9C was gauged at Dombegyháza, Békés county, beating the previous high of 35.2C, recorded only three years ago in Körösszakál. The new Budapest record is 35.4C measured in Újpest, up from 34.1C in 1942.
