Retailers’ Union Calls Demo For Sunday On Shop Openings

The Union of Retail Employees (KASZ) has organised a demonstration for Sunday in protest of the government’s fast procedure in removing restrictions on Sunday shop openings. The demonstration will be held by the Economy Ministry’s building and the union wants to present a petition to Economy Minister Mihály Varga, KASZ said.

ECHR Rules Hungary Failed To Adequately Investigate Racially Motivated Abuse

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ruled against Hungary in a nonfinal ruling, stating that an applicant’s allegations of racially motived abuse had been inadequately investigated in 2011. The applicant, of Roma origin, filed the lawsuit against the Hungarian state after four men had insulted her and her children outside their house in Gyöngyöspata, in northern Hungary.

The Hungarian Parliament today approved legislation putting an end to a year-old law that required retailers to stay closed on Sundays, according to Hungarian news agency MTI. The legislation was approved in an expedited procedure after the government proposed it yesterday. According to reports, the law will still remain in effect for this Sunday.
