The festival was established in 2004 by a group of young Hungarian filmmakers in order to fill a gap in the category of short film, but over the years it became clear that it was about much more. The international breakthrough came rapidly on the 3rd festival in 2007 when shorts were screened from 45 countries.

Acclaimed director Béla Tarr is closing his production house T.T. Filmműhely from the end of May, he and business partner Gábor Téni announced in a statement on Thursday. They said that despite all their efforts they are obliged to realise that their position has become untenable.

The Last Happy Day is an experimental documentary portrait of Sandor (Alexander) Lenard, a Hungarian medical doctor and a distant cousin of filmmaker Lynne Sachs.
