Bartók DanceTriptych, Hungarian State Opera

Now on until 4 June. As part of the HungarianFest organised by the Hungarian State Opera, the new production entitled Bartók DanceTriptych promises to be a unique treat for our dance-loving viewers. Three one-act dance pieces composed by Béla Bartók are presented in one evening, each of them choreographed by a different artist.

The stag is an ancient and universal symbol in cultural history - and its discarded and regrown antlers have come to represent eternal renewal. The stag is at once a demon, a shaman, a wizard, a fairy or king of the dead, capable of drawing those who hunt it into a new and different world.

August 20th is Hungary's National Day commemorating King Stephen, the first king of the Hungarian sand the founder of the Hungarian state. He led in the Catholicism with the protection of Rome. He was canonised and became St. Stephen on 20th August 1083. On this day the whole country celebrates with concerts, Holy Mass and fireworks.

This large-scale festival is put on for the public every year on 20th August. There is an exhibition of Hungarian crafts, a water and an air parade, and a firework display. This day is also a national holiday in honour of Saint Stephen (King István I.), founder of the state of Hungary, as well as the festival of the new bread.
