Hungarian students finished in last place among European countries and in 29th place among 34 countries in digital text comprehension, according to a PISA survey conducted in 2012. The results were released only now because Hungarian researchers did not believe that pupils here are so weak. According to the report, Hungarian schools use outdated computers and internet access is limited.

The European Commission has lifted a ban on the disbursement of European Union economic development funding to Hungary, daily Magyar Idők reported. With a resolution dated September 23, the Brussels commission closed a probe affecting funding worth about 700 billion forints (EUR 2.24bn), the paper said on Saturday.

A Syrian man in preliminary detention for his alleged role in clashes between migrants and police last week was found in possession of a total of nine passports, eight of which were issued to people other than himself, Hungary’s national police said. Earlier, the daily Népszabadság reported that the 39-year-old Syrian man known as Ahmed H had a total of seven passports.
