Budapest Opera Tribute Concert To Annie Fischer On 100th Birthday

The Hungarian State Opera House will host a tribute concert to celebrate the birth centenary of world-renowned Hungarian pianist Annie Fischer on April 14. Pianists Jenő Jandó, Tamás Vásáry, Ilona Prúnyi and Katalin Falvai will play solos accompanied by the Solti Chamber Orchestra to commemorate the artist, who died in 1995, Vásáry told a press conference in Budapest.

Juanjo Mena, one of today’s best-known, busiest maestros, is currently principal conductor with the BBC Philharmonic. Earlier he worked in Spain, his homeland, in Italy, and in Norway, where he was principal guest conductor of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra.

The “Le Nozze di Figaro” staged concerts conducted and directed by Iván Fischer with the Budapest Festival Orchestra was considered as “highlight of the New York opera season” by The New York Times. After the major triumph of the 2011 debut of an extraordinary Don Giovanni Iván Fischer and the Budapest Festival Orchestra once again received standing ovations and were highly praised by the press.

Ivan Fischer, Music Director of the Budapest Festival Orchestra and the Konzerthaus Berlin, was awarded with an Honorary Membership of the Royal Academy of Music. The Honorary Membership is limited to 300 persons; Mendelssohn, Liszt, Stravinsky and Casals are amongst those who received this honour.
