The government’s auctioning off state-owned farmland will not prevent foreign nationals from obtaining estates in Hungary, the Socialist Party said. On the contrary, foreigners could not buy land if all those plots remained publicly owned, Socialist deputy chair Zoltán Gőgös told a press conference.

Data from the National Transport Authority indicate that 40,095 vehicles in Hungary are affected by Volkswagen’s diesel emissions scandal, Development Minister Miklós Seszták said. In his response to independent lawmaker Tímea Szabó in parliament, Seszták said the transport authority automatically certifies new cars based on approval by an EU member state regulator.
