Consumer prices in Hungary fell by an annual 0.7% in November, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) said. Emerging market analysts in London had put November CPI at negative 0.5%. Consumer prices fell by 0.4% in October and were down 0.5% in September.

Lawmakers approved a government law on banning from 2018 supermarkets and hypermarkets that fail to make a profit for two consecutive years. The law which bans the outlets from selling daily consumer goods passed with 116 in favour, 34 against and 25 abstentions.

Fónagy said that the government’s utility cuts programme, launched in January last year, has so far left 334 billion forints (EUR 1.1bn) with families.
