The Municipal Chief Prosecutor’s Office has brought charges against 13 former district government officials and the former deputy notary in connection with the sale of a prestigious property on Andrássy Avenue, a World Heritage Site, in 2004, the Budapest chief prosecutor told MTI.

Last year 1,365 foreigners got 1,267 Hungarian property ownership permits, the majority Russian. According to the data posted on the government’s website, this number has increased compared to 2011, when 1,069 foreign nationals obtained 1,120 permits, and 2012, when the respective numbers were 1,110 and 1,186.

Spanish hotel chain Barceló is looking to expand across the CE region and is currently scouting locations to build hotels in Budapest, Vienna, Bratislava and Prague. Alejandro Martín Alvarez, Barceló’s director for the Czech Republic, told the server e15 that the hotel operator is focusing on Prague 1 and hopes to buy a new property within a year.

The scale of the projects is up 41% from last year. The value has climbed 29%. But IFK said it would still take 2-3 years for the pace of business to really pick up.
