A realistic deadline for introducing a traffic congestion charge in Budapest is the end of next year, István Tarlós, the city’s mayor, told Népszabadság in an interview. Tarlós noted that his predecessor, Gábor Demszky, had undertaken to launch a congestion charge as a condition for EU financing for the construction of the city’s fourth metro line.

Government officials have said there were no risks in the 2015 budget, noting that the budget had not taken into account the some 300 billion forints (EUR 980m) in profit the National Bank of Hungary is expected to generate and saying there was fiscal room for a number of big investments.
