FM Szijjártó Sues Magyar: Defamation War Over 'Samsung Smears' in Hungary
- 11 Feb 2026 9:39 AM
Szijjarto, speaking on the Truth Hour podcast, said that Magyar had "crossed a line", adding that this justified the unprecedented legal action despite his "usual reluctance" to pursue such cases.
"The defamation he directed at me last night -- these baseless, brutal lies - goes far beyond acceptable political debate," he said.
"I won't tolerate this. I'm filing charges today, and we will see if Magyar takes responsibility like a man or hides behind [European Commission President] Ursula von der Leyen and [European People's Party head] Manfred Weber, invoking Brussels' immunity to evade accountability."
He confirmed that legal action would also be taken against news portal Telex for publishing what he called a "massive disinformation campaign" falsely implicating him in the matter of the plant's legality.
Szijjarto emphasised that the Kuria, Hungary's Supreme Court, upheld the plant's comprehensive environmental permit on Friday, ensuring its continued operation, a fact he insisted opponents "conveniently omit".
"I live five kilometres from the plant. If there were any truth to these claims, I'd know," he added.
Meanwhile, Szijjarto accused the "Brussels-Kyiv coalition" of seeking regime change in Hungary, citing Ukraine's push for bans on Russian oil and gas imports and sanctions on Russia's nuclear sector as threats to Hungary's energy security and sovereignty.
"Any entity undermining Hungary's stability is our enemy. Ukraine is acting against us, and we will not allow it," he declared.
