Border Fence In Hungary May Be Built By Prisoners

The government will have prisoners construct the fence on the border with Serbia, Népszava writes today, based on a cabinet resolution published in official gazette Magyar Közlöny. The resolution reassigns Ft 6.57 billion from government reserves to cover costs expected to arise at corrections institutes. The sum is identical to the cost of building the barrier as announced by the government.

Hungary’s top court has ruled that the recent amendment to the land asset law concerning national parks is unconstitutional. At the same time the part of the law enabling the termination of lease contracts and lease rights for certain land belonging to the National Land Fund is not unconstitutional, the body ruled.

Pénzügykutató expects Hungary’s GDP growth rate to fall to 2.4% this year as investments slow, the economic research company said in a forecast. The projection is well under the government’s latest forecast for growth of 2.8% - 2.9%. Hungary’s GDP rose by 3.6% last year.
