Budapest’s largest community gardens opened on an area of 2,600 square metres in south-east Budapest. The project converted a derelict lot used previously by Magyar Telekom into 100 garden plots of some 8 square metres each where nearby residents can grow vegetables, fruit and herbs.

A tourism development project is likely to go ahead in the Buda hills, as a result of a 12th District referendum on Sunday in which 28% of eligible voters turned out. Of those, 81% voted in favour of the plan to build skiing and other winter sports facilities in the forested Normafa area.

A local referendum will be held in the 12th District on May 17 on a proposal to build tourist attractions in nature conservation areas in the hilly Normafa area. A forestry school, ski slopes, a ski lift, a playground, road renovations and public lighting are all included in the plan. According to the feasibility study, the project will cost Ft 6.9 billion.

Sheriff System Supported In Miskolc, Hungary

Miskolc local council on Thursday supported the introduction of a so-called sheriff system whereby every district of the city will have a local council law enforcement officer. The number of staff members performing law enforcement duties for Miskolc local council will be raised to 160 on the basis of the council decision.
