Hungary Hosts International Holocaust Event In London

Hungary, as the current president of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), hosted a large-scale international event remembering the Holocaust, in London. Szabolcs Takács, Hungary’s state secretary for EU affairs, said London was a symbolic venue for such an event as Britain had a very strong Jewish community from whom there was a lot to learn.

One and a half million Hungarians live in dwellings unfit for human habitation. No bathroom, toilet out in the yard, windows that let in the cold air, walls black from smoke. In Ág, a small village in the southern Hungarian Baranya county, the locals washed themselves in wash tubs. Last year Habitat for Humanity appeared and offered building material for volunteer work.

The government’s Petőfi Sándor Programme to be launched on March 15 is expected to strengthen the identity of ethnic Hungarians in areas where its community is a diaspora and their number is decreasing, the state secretary for ethnic Hungarian communities abroad said.

President János Áder opened the 19th Csángó Ball in Budapest on Saturday. In his opening address, the President said that national cohesion or national culture "cannot be outdated". "Being Hungarian is thinking in Hungarian, praying in Hungarian, being in love in Hungarian and caressing our children with Hungarian words," Mr. Áder said.
Situation Of Hungarian Minority Getting Worse As Crisis In Ukraine Escalates

The number of Ukrainian Hungarians crossing over the border and seeking help from the Hungarian Maltese Charity has been increasing in recent days. The charity offers temporary accommodation to them in their facilities and sometimes in offices to make sure that nobody spends the night in the street, its director Imre Kozma said.
