Hungarian pilgrims are leading this year’s international March of the Living that set out from Auschwitz to Birkenau at 1pm on Monday. The Hungarian participants of the 26th march between the former Nazi death camps include Holocaust survivors, secondary school students, Jews and non-Jewish people and many Roma commemorating the Roma Holocaust.

The Hungarian government has been actively recruiting new citizens from the neighboring countries, presumably to add to their vote total at the next national election. In order to be eligible for citizenship a person must have at least one ancestor who was a Hungarian citizen. He must also have some knowledge of the Hungarian language.
