The mayor of Budapest, Gergely Karacsony, has announced a pause in public transport services to take place on Friday as "a first warning", adding the decision was made after talks with trade unions "representing the 27,000 employees of the Budapest family … who trust in the solidarity of the capital's residents".

The trade unions of railway workers will announce a national strike in the first week of March if no agreement is reached in ongoing wage talks by Feb. 20, the VDSZSZ Solidarity trade union’s head said. Talks on minimum required services will be initiated later on Friday, Zoltán Havasi said at a joint press conference with other six trade union leaders.
