US Ambassador Colleen Bell and Canadian Ambassador Lisa Helfand opened the 17th Ibero-American Week scientific and cultural programme in Pécs. Researchers and scholarship fellows pursuing American studies serve as an important “bridge” in US-Hungary relations, Bell said in her address at the opening.

Criticism of the central bank and its foundations is “political bluff”, the bank’s governor György Matolcsy said in an interview published in Friday’s daily Magyar Nemzet. Matolcsy said he highly valued the trust placed in him by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and he was sure that they would continue to work together.

"Born in Paris in 1964, he is descended from Hungarian landowners, and has German origins on his mother's side. He inherited his artistic talent from his grandmother, who was a painter in Leipzig in 1920s.
