Xpat Opinion: Szimplakert Haztaji Piac (Szimplakert Croft Market) Revisited
- 14 Sep 2012 12:00 PM
- shopping
Having a free Sunday morning on my hands, a friend and I visited the Szimplakert Haztaji Market. The great ambiance was still there. Almost every seller had samples out to try, whether it be szorp, jam, baked goods, spreads or cheese. All the sellers were friendly, chatty, and proud of their products.
Hungary, The State Of The Left-Wing Alliance Tango
- 12 Sep 2012 9:00 AM
- current affairs
More than the polling results of individual opposition parties, the question of whether a comprehensive left-wing alliance can be formed has emerged as the crucial issue in terms of evaluating the potential for a government change in 2014. It is still unclear whether the combined support of the left-wing parties would be enough to defeat Fidesz. What appears clear, however, is that none of the ...
Xpat Opinion: Szimplakert Haztaji Piac (Szimplakert Croft Market) In Budapest
- 5 Sep 2012 9:00 AM
- shopping
Sunday morning Lydia and I explored the newish Szimplakert Haztaji Piac (open Sunday 9-14, Kazinczy u. 14, VII ker). I cannot stand the crowds at night at Szimpla, so I tend to avoid it. This was set ...

Luckily they have managed to survive (so far) the reconstruction of the old chemical works as an industrial park. In 1908 a municipal decision was made to replace several obsolete gas factories with a single new facility.

- sport
After doing my first Balaton Swim with Kevin Jackson 3 years ago for charity (raising money for the Hungarian Fair Trade Campaign), I have impatiently been waiting to do a second. Two years ago, after many weather postponements, the event was cancelled. Last year I had to pull out with 3 slipped disks. In what must be a first, the event this year went off without a hitch the first try, thus ...

- 28 Jun 2012 9:00 AM
- food & drink
By Andi Lustak: The non-smoking ban in Hungary finally came into effect in January in all restaurants and bars and it has already made a huge difference with most establishments complying with the law. From April restaurants who don’t comply can get fined up to 1 million HUF. This is great and gave me the chance to move away from just focusing on finding the best non-smoking places and instead ...
