Xpat Report: Jane Goodall At Grandhouse Luncheon In Budapest

The season’s last Grandhouse luncheon on June 16 hosted Dame Jane Goodall of chimpanzee fame before a blockbuster rapt audience of 85 guests, a roster of ambassadors among them, this time not as usual at the Academy of Science but at Kogart House gallery restaurant along the World Heritage listed Andrássy út.

Rita Tóth AIWS, dedicated #winelover and #travellover, was born in Eger, Hungary where her family has a tradition in vinegrowing and winemaking. After gaining a BA in Business Administration she moved to Australia, where she started her career in the field of recruitment, but also drew inspiration from the vineyards of Barossa and Hunter Valleys to move towards the wine business.

Bidders keen to procure their exclusive, limited Tokaji wine at the Confrérie de Tokaj’s third Great Tokaj Wine Auction on 25th April raised a final hammer price of € 100 415, continuing the upwards trend of the first two auctions (€ 67 500 in 2013, € 90 433 in 2014). By Liz Frommer: Last Thursday, April 23rd marked the re-inauguration of the Xpat Wine Club here in Budapest. Having been evidently sorely missed, the turnout was impressive, and Le Meridien’s Longitude Bar was well-filled by guests looking to get a taste or two (or seven to be exact) of exemplary Hungarian wines.
